Muslims Demand CBI Probe Into Batla Encounter

New Delhi, January 14: A body of Muslim intellectuals today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to institute a CBI probe into the Batla House encounter that took place in 2008.

The Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC), comprising mostly teachers and former teachers of the Aligarh Muslim University, had sent a memorandum to the Prime Minister in this regard.

The memorandum slammed Union Home Minister P Chidambram for describing the encounter as genuine, MBMC chief Razaullah Khan told reporters here.

“What has pained members of the Muslim community is the fact that even a call for dispensation of justice is dubbed as appeasement by certain sections of the polity,” he said.

Those opposing a free and transparent probe into the encounter were playing into the hands of anti-national forces who were trying to spread “ill-will and dissatisfaction” in society, the MBMC said.

Secretary MBMC Jaseem Mohammad said a delegation of AMU teachers would shortly leave for New Delhi to press for a CBI probe into the Batla House incident.

The encounter on September 19, 2008 at Batla House led to the killing of Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chandra Sharma and two Indian Mujahideen terrorists.
