NEW DELHI: Narrow lanes of Muslim dominated Jamia Nagar could not house the sea of supporters that followed the Aam Aadmi Party’s East Delhi candidate Atishi.
As Atishi goes door-to-door on Saturday evening through the congested lanes of Batla House in Jamia Nagar to drum up support, scores of supporters of the 37-year-old candidate are hopeful that Atishi’s AAP would be able to sail through as she started early in the constituency.
Sporting the AAP’s trademark white cap, an Oxford University graduate, Atishi was welcomed in Jamia Nagar with rose petals at several points, as “chowkidar chor hai” slogans were raised in the air.
Supporters also raise slogans such as ‘Congress, BJP dhoka hai, desh bacha lo mauka hai (vote for AAP to save country from Congress, BJP)’, as per Hindustan Times reports.
Jamia Nagar— a part of the Okhla assembly constituency has 3.6 lakh voters of whom around 2 lakh are Muslims.
She asked residents to “make AAP win with a huge margin”.
The AAP candidate is pitted against Congress Arvinder Singh Lovely, a former education minister and former cricketer Gautam Gambhir of the BJP.
