Mumbai Blasts: SC issues notice to Mah Govt, CBI on Dossa bail

New Delhi, June 28: The Supreme Court has issued notices to Maharashtra Government and the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the bail petition of Mustafa Ahmad Dossa, one of the accused in the Mumbai blasts case.

Dossa in his petition prayed before the apex court to grant him bail in a case under Special TADA Court in Ratnagiri district.

A vacation bench comprising Justices P K Sathasivam and A K Patnaik while quashing the petition refuse to interfere in the TADA court decision.

The apex court noted, “The petitioner is not a common man, he is a declared absconder and it might be harmful for the society if he is released.”

Justice Sathasivam said, “This Court can only order the special TADA court to hear the case immediately.” Senior Cousel, on behalf of Dossa, Praveen H Parekh said the various cases against the petitioner are running in different courts of the state and all relate to 1993 Mumbai blasts.

Mr Parekh arguing the case said the petitioner was granted bail in some other cases and he cannot be released until he gets the bail in all cases.

After hearing the argument, the apex court issued the notices to Maharashtra Government and the CBI and fixed July 4 as the next date of hearing.

Dossa was accused of supplying arms and ammunition and the case is subjudice in Jamnagar and Porbander of Gujarat and Ratnagiri in Maharashtra.
