Hyderabad, September 02: The Home Minister, Ms Sabitha Indra Reddy, on Wednesday, visited the Hussain Sagar Tank Bund area and reviewed the arrangements being made for the immersion of Ganesh idols in the lake on Thursday.
Speaking to mediapersons later, the Home Minister said that all arrangements required for the smooth immersion of idols have been made. She said that some 26,000 additional police personnel were deployed at the lake to ensure that no untoward incident took place. She also disclosed that 40 bomb disposal squads were kept ready to rise to the occasion. Apart from 257 sensitive areas, 536 problem areas have been identified, she added.
Stating that 31 cranes were arranged around the Tank Bund area, she said that some 4,000 idols have been immersed already. She expected that some 6,000 more idols are likely to be immersed on Thursday. She also disclosed that some 800 rowdy-sheeters have been taken into preventive custody as a precautionary measure. (NSS)
