Hyderabad: Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, Editor of Siasat Urdu Daily told that due to extravagant expenses in marriages, the evil of dowry and unnecessary rituals are causing a big hurdle in the way of marriages of thousands of Muslim girls. The worst affected group of the Muslims is the middle class and poor sections. There are thousands of poor family, the parents of which are meeting with death in the hope of getting their daughters married.
On the one hand, we have fallen prey to the evil of dowry and extravaganza in marriages, on the other hand we are the most backward community in the field of education also. In order to exhibit pomp and pride, many Muslim families are incurring financial difficulties by borrowing loans for the marriage of their daughters.
As a concerned Muslim, it is our duty to raise our voice against these evils. In order to invite the attention of the Muslim community, Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, Editor of Siasat Urdu Daily has declared that he will boycott all such marriages in which unnecessary expenditure has been incurred. He also said that he will not attend any marriage in which there is an arrangement for music and fire crackers. He also advised Mr. Zaheeruddin Ali Khan, Managing Editor of Siasat Urdu Daily and Mr. Amer Ali Khan, News Editor of Siasat Urdu Daily to boycott all such marriages.
He lamented that not only the Muslims of Telangana and the Muslim of India but also the Muslims in other parts of the world are also passing through a difficult phase. In such a situation, Muslims should avoid unnecessary expenditure in marriages. If Muslims follow the Sunnah of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), the community can save itself from many evils. In order to perform marriages in a simple manner, Mr. Zahid Ali Khan recalled the Hadith of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) in which he said that “the most blessed marriage is that which is the least expensive”.
Mr. Zahid Ali Khan further told that if the Muslims follow this Hadith of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), no daughter in a Muslim family would remain unmarried. No brother would require selling his kidney for performing the marriage of his sister. He appealed to the Ulema and Muslim scholars to come forward to boycott such marriages. By doing so, a positive message would be communicated to the community.
Mr. Zahid Ali Khan applauded the decision taken by Quresh Community to boycott extravagant marriages. He appreciated the efforts of Mr. Mohammed Saleem, TRS MLC and congratulated him for the initiate he took in this regard. He told that this decision is an example not only for the Muslims of Telangana but also entire India which should be emulated.
It may be noted that recently, Jamiatul Quraish took a decision to serve one dish and one sweet dish in the marriages of their community. The committee also had decided to impose a fine of Rs. 50, 000 if this rule is violated. Mr. Zahid Ali Khan told that this condition should not be confined to Quresh Community alone but it should be extended to all the Muslims. He also lamented that the grooms reach function halls very late which is causing inconvenience to elderly persons and patients. Mr. Zahid Ali Khan also appealed to Urdu newspapers to launch campaigns against unnecessary expenditures in marriages. If we adopt these economic measures, we would be able to concentrate our efforts on the eradication of educational and economic backwardness of our community.
