MPs condemn violence, destruction of property in AP

New Delhi, March 11: Rajya Sabha members joined senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu in expressing anguish over incidents of violence during a march by pro-Telangana activists in Hyderabad yesterday, in which statues of famous personalities were targetted.

Amid cries of “shame”, Mr Naidu raised the matter during Zero Hour as soon as the Upper House assembled.

Decrying the incidents of vandalism and destruction indulged in by the marchers at Hussain Sagar lake, he said it was “a sad day for democracy”.

The BJP leader demanded that such acts be condemned by all unequivocally.
Joining in the condemnation, Mr M V Mysura Reddy, TDP, flayed the violence, particularly the attack on media.

Mr D Raja, CPI, described the attacks as “an assault on the great culture of Telugus” and demanded that the state Government should explain on the failure of police to control the violence.

Sharing the views, Mr Tapan K Sen, CPI(M), said the happenings were not accidental but a planned attack and demanded firm action against the perpetrators.
