MP Govt. to set up National Dinosaur Fossil Park in Dhar distt

Bhopal, December 18 (Pervez Bari): On the recommendation of Madhya Pradesh Wildlife Board, the Madhya Pradesh Government is establishing a National Dinosaur Fossil Park in Dhar district of the state. A notification to this effect was issued on December 2 last, an official spokesman said.

According to the spokesman near the Bagh area of Dhar district, fossils of more than 100 dinosaur eggs were found in the year 2006, which was a rare achievements from the point of view of science. Scientists have estimated these fossils to be around 7 crore to 6.5 crore years old. Apart from eggs, fossils of dinosaur nests have also been found in the area. In the year 2003, a US scientist had identified fossils of a massive dinosaur, which was named as “Rajasaurus Narmdensis”.

The National Dinosaur Fossil Park will be spread over 89.740 hectare forest area near Bagh Caves in Dhar forest division and is situated about 80 kilometers away from the district headquarters Dhar in Kukshi tehsil on Bagh-Jobat Road.

The establishment of Dinosaur Fossil Park will help increase awareness about the conservation of national heritage and will create job opportunities for the local rural people, the spokesman stated. (pervezbari@eth.net)
