Bhopal, February 13: Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh has alleged that the Madhya Pradesh government has not given compensation to farmers out of funds available in the state coffers.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced that he will go on a fast from today as Centre is not releasing funds for paying compensation to farmers who were hit by extreme cold weather.
In an open letter sent to Chouhan last night, he said the state government has made available to the districts Rs 256 crore so far; of which less than Rs 100 crore have been disbursed to the farmers.
Singh said instead of resorting to a “drama” of a fast, Chouhan should try and find out the real situation prevailing in the State, stop black marketing in fertilisers and seeds and ensure that Madhya Pradesh does not become a haven for terrorists.
