Damoh, MP, Jun 25 (UNI) Nearly 30 per cent polling was reported till 1200 hrs in assembly by-poll to Jabera seat of Madhya Pradesh, official sources said.
Polling began at 240 centres at 0800 hrs today amid tight security. No untoward incident was reported.
Polling was comparatively sluggish in the first two hours due to light rainfall but it gathered momentum during noon. Men and women lined in queues to exercise their franchise.
More than 1,77,000 voters, including about 89,000 women, will seal electoral fortunes of 19 candidates in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
However, the main contest is between Congress nominee Tanya Solomon and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Dashrath Singh Lodhi.
Counting will take place on June 29 at Damoh district headquarters.
The by-poll was necessitated following the death of Congress
legislator and former minister Ratnesh Solomon.
