Mother of stillborn baby gets Rs1L compensation in AP

Hyderabad, March 24: Andhra Pradesh Government has been asked by the state rights panel to pay a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to a woman whose stillborn baby was carried away by a stray dog after it was left unattended by the medical staff.

Anuradha, had delivered a stillborn baby, which was carried away by a dog from the gynaecology ward of King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam on February 27.

On a petition filed by Anuradha’s husband, BVS Kamal Kumar, the Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) today issued the direction to the State Medical and Health Department.

APSHRC Chairman B Subhashan Reddy said Anuradha was entitled for compensation of Rs 1 lakh and the same be paid by Principal Secretary, Medical and Health Department, by May 31.

The dog ran away with the newborn, but the hospital staff chased the animal and recovered the body.
