Hyderabad, July 14: Hyderabad District Collector Navin Mittal issued ex gratia cheques of Rs 2 lakh each, to the families of five victims of the Bholakpur water contamination tragedy on Monday morning. Sources at the Hyderabad District Collectorate confirmed that the families of Md Yaseen, Syed Abdul Gani, Andalamma, Abdul Qayum and Ahmed Abdul Haque, deceased residents of Bholakpur were issued the cheques, which formed part of a weekly grievance addressal programme recently initiated by the Collector.
Spokespersons from the Collector’s Office at Nampally revealed that the weekly grievance addressal cell, held every Monday has elicited considerable response from the residents of Hyderabad district.
“Major issues from the other districts are also forwarded to the Hyderabad Collectorate, if deemed necessary by the respective district magistrates,” District Collectorate officials informed. The success of the Monday grievance addressal system saw around 60 petitioners from across the district troop into the Collector’s office to present their complaints.
While most complaints centre around the issue of land disputes, there are numerous petitions that also concern issues regarding outstanding pensions.
“The weekly grievance cell has seen widowers and differently-abled individuals benefit specifically from the scheme, as far as issues of outstanding pensions and allowances are concerned,” the official added.
Speaking to Navin Mittal indicated that the present week’s complaints ranged from land allotment issues to individuals in Karwan seeking gas connections under the Deepam Padakam scheme, to community complaints from Amberpet regarding irregularities in pensions. “The concerned regional officers have been accordingly asked to look into the matter at the earliest,” noted Mittal.
Apart from dealing with complaints from individuals, the Collectorate also instituted a set of appointments in the Police Transport Commission and the ITI College to three individuals, who lost their fathers employed and serving at the organisation.
“Due to the open nature of the weekly grievance cell, the nature of complaints received by the Collector’s office are myriad,” mused an official, adding that “issues regarding health and sanitation are also entertained, which are then followed up in collaboration with concerned departments like the GHMC.” The Hyderabad District Collectorate incidentally also won accolades from the Health Ministry, and was awarded the best collectorate award for institutional deliveries and family planning on Saturday.
