Mohammed John sworn in as TN Minister

Chennai, June 29: Mr A. Mohammed John was today sworn in as Minister for Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare in the first reshuffle of the month-old Ms J. Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu.

The Governor, Mr Surjit Singh Barnala, adminstered the oath of office to Mr John, who represents Ranipet constituency in the 234-member Assembly.

The Chief Minister, Ms J. Jayalalithaa, Speaker, Mr D. Jayakumar, and the council of Ministers were present in the swearing-in ceremony.

The Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare portfolio was held previously by the Environment Minister, Mr T.K.M. Chinnaya. He had been given additional charge of the Ministry in the wake of the death of Mariam Pitchai in a road accident last month.
