Mock mass casualty drill held at GHMC

A Mock Mass Casualty Drill was organized on the premises of Gandhi Medical College here on Sunday. Organised as part of the 15th Annual National Conference of International Trauma Care (ITC CON) here, the drill had a setting of a public meeting with a mock bomb blast. Preparing for the worst scenario, medical and other emergency response teams were put through the mass casualty drill with ‘Moulage’ technique, wherein people had mock injuries with blood, open fractures and so on.

Speaking to media persons, National Disaster Management Authority vice-chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy said that they asked all States to set up State Disaster Response Force on the lines of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to deal with disasters. The Disaster Response Force must be able to manage the consequences of chemical and biological attacks effectively, he said, adding that mass casualty drills must be held from time to time. NDMA will organise more such mock drills to help create awareness, Shashidhar Reddy added.

The mock drill was organised by GVK EMRI 108 and various departments like police, Fire Services, Octopus, CLUES, Central Crime Branch and so on were present. Ramgopalpet Corporater K. Kiranmayee, Begumpet Corporater T. Maheshwari also attended. (NSS)
