Miss Mexico loses crown over 3kg weight gain

Mexico, August 16: Cynthia de la Vega was all set to represent her country at this year’s Miss World pageant in November after emerging first-runner-up in Nuestra Bellza Mexico, but she has since lost her crown after she gained 3kg.

19-year-old de la Vega will be replaced by 22-year-old Gabriela Palacio Díaz.

At a press conference, the dethroned beauty queen revealed that the organisers demanded that she lost a few kilos but “never provided a nutritionist or any other assistance to ensure the weight loss.”

She also said that she felt “very sad and very deceived” and had cried a lot over this matter.

However, Lupita Jones, one of the pageant’s organisers, said that the 19-year-old had lacked “dedication and discipline” and that she “did not comply with the recommendations and goals agreed upon for her preparation.”

Nuestra Bellza México, which translates to Our Beauty Mexico, is the Mexican beauty pageant responsible for selecting the country’s delegate to three of the most relevant international beauty contests – Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International. It has been held annually since 1994.
