New Delhi, March 28: The National Minority Commission lacks flexibility and innovativeness of approach to tackle the issues and problems of minorities, a study has said.
Pointing out weaknesses of the body, an internal SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis of NCM indicated that working outside normal government machinery will help the Commission achieve its objectives better.
“The common perception is that it works under the ruling party and hesitates in criticising government policies and programmes, which are of negligible significance and little use to minority communities or are detrimental to their interest,” the study said.
The minority body, in terms of power, is not at par with other Commissions like National Commission for Scheduled Castes and National Commission for Scheduled tribes. NCM is a statutory commission unlike the two commissions, which enjoy a constitutional status, it added.
