Several activists of Majlis Bachau Tahreek (MBT), including MBT President Dr. Khayam Khan and ex-Corporator Amjed Ullah Khan, were taken into custody when they tried to take out a protest march against Hindu Mahasabha leader Kamelsh Tiwari, who made a derogatory statement against Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).
The South Zone police foiled the protest march in the Old City by MBT leaders after the Friday prayers. As soon as MBT leaders arrived at the MBT office in Chanchalguda after offering Friday prayers, Dr. Khayam Khan and Amjed Ullah Khan were immediately taken into custody and shifted to a nearby police station. However, the other MBT workers continued the protest and burnt the effigy of Kamlesh Tiwari. More than 30 activists were also taken into custody by the police. They were released only in the evening.
Speaking to media persons later, Amjed Ullah Khan demanded stern action against Kamlesh Tiwari for making derogatory and objectionable statements against Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). He said that the MBT strongly advocates death sentence for Kamlesh Tiwari for his highly provocative remarks which were aimed at hurting the religious feelings of all Muslims across the world.
Amjed Ullah also condemned the Hyderabad City Police for foiling their protest. “When protests are being allowed across the country, then why South Zone is not permitting any kind of protest. This is purely due to political pressure from MIM leaders,” he said adding that MIM conducted over 40 protest meetings when Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi was attacked. However, they have remained mute spectators and not protesting against Kamlesh Tiwari’s provocative remarks. “MIM leaders apparently fear that any protest would make their boss Narender Modi unhappy. Therefore, they are not only keeping silence, but suppressing protest by other groups,” he said. (INN)
