Mayawati should have called all-party meeting on Ayodhya: Rita

Jaunpur, September 22: Accusing Mayawati government for trying to create controversy by blaming the Centre for not providing ‘enough’ Central forces to strenghten security in the state in the wake of Ayodhya title suit verdict due on September 24, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Rita Bahuguna Joshi today said efforts should be made for communal harmony by calling an all-party meet on the issue.

”Had Chief Minister Mayawati been serious on the issue, she would have convened an all-party meeting to discuss the issue,” she alleged.

Talking to mediapersons Ms Joshi said, ”UP government should have asked the people to maintain peace and assured them that nothing would happen on September 24 but surprisingly, the BSP government itself was creating tension.” ”Like Kashmir, UP government too, should have called an all-party meet to discuss the fallout of the Ayodhya verdict,” she said.

She said blaming the Centre for not giving over 600 companies of the Central forces to the state was not justified as the forces are presently deployed in other sensitive areas of the country.

”AICC president Sonia Gandhi had already asked the party workers and leaders to be present at their native places on the day of the verdict to maintain communal harmony,” she said.

Without mentioning any names, she said some leaders, whose political future was at stake, were giving provocative statements to take political mileage.
