Mayawati bats for separate states of Bundelkhand and Harit Pradesh

Lucknow, December 12: Reiterating Bahujan Samaj Party’s and the Uttar Pradesh government support for the creation of Bundelkhand and West UP as separate states, Chief Minister Mayawati today asked the people of these two regions to pressurise the UPA government at the Centre to concede their demands.

” People should appeal to the Centre in a forceful manner to press for their demands for creation of Bundelkhand and West UP without taking law and order in their hands,” said Ms Mayawati promising to pass the resolution for theseparate state by the state assembly once the Centre gives its approval.

Addressing a press conference here at her official residence, the CM, who wrote a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today on the issue, said the BSP had always supported the policy of smaller states and districts for better administration and all-round development. ”Earlier on March 15,2008, I had sent a letter to the PM in support of smaller states,” she pointed out.

” After the Centre accepted to set up a separate Telangana state, now it is its duty to approve carving out separate states of Bundelkhand and West UP,” she said.

When asked about the demand for a separate Poorvanchal state comprised of the eastern UP districts of UP, she said if people of the region desired so, her government will also support it.
