Martial hits back post Mourinho’s criticism

London: Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has hit back at the club manager Jose Mourinho for criticising him after his failure to return for team’s pre-season tour in the USA following the birth of his child.

Giving a sharp reply, the player said that his family would always be his priority. He, however, confirmed his return to the club.

“Sorry, but my family will always come before everything… Back tomorrow in Manchester,” goal.com quoted Martial, as saying.

Expressing disappointment over Martial’s failure to return to the team, Mourinho had earlier said that the player should have joined the club after the birth of his baby.

Martial, who joined United in 2015, had an impactful debut season in which he notched up 11 goals in 31 Premier League games he played under former manager Louis Van Gaal.

He bagged many titles with United including EFL Cup, FA Cup, and Europa League.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that Martial’s agent had recently claimed that the player is keen to leave the club following his struggle to gain a spot in the starting XI with 12 of his 30 league appearances coming off the bench in 2017-18 under Mourinho.
