Maulana Azad National Urdu University was on the boil on Monday as students and staff staged protest condemning the rowdyism and manhandling incidents occurred on the occasion of the visit of former Vice Chancellor of the university. The protesting students closed main gate of the university since morning and preventing entry of vehicles into the gate. Students were resented over manhandling of students and staff who protested against the irregularities on the occasion of former Vice Chancellor Mohammed Miya’s secret visit to the university. Many students and teachers suffered injuries. Authorities stopped students from making police complaint.
When the students began protest on Monday morning and condemned behaviour of proctor and Chief Warden, University authorities called police and Raedurgam police took some students into custody. However university authorities sent back the police to prevent the situation from worsening. Students and staff held incharge vice chancellor; proctor and chief warden responsible for the incidents occurred on Saturday and demanded their resignation.
Besides teaching and non-teaching staff some senior teachers also supported the protest. Students and staff have decided to form a joint Action Committee to protest in an organised manner.
It must be noted that students and teachers had organised protest against former Vice Chancellor’s visit accusing him of indulging in favouritism and sidelining the Urdu mandate.
Meanwhile University Chancellor has termed the incident as unfortunate and assured that he would seek report from Incharge Vice Chancellor in this regard. He also felt that keeping in view the protest by students and staff the former Vice chancellor shouldn’t have been invited.
