Man with knife arrested on New Year eve in Mumbai

Mumbai, December 31: While the city is set for celebrations on New Year eve, a 33-year-old man was today arrested for allegedly possessing a knife and moving about suspiciously at Churchgate area in south Mumbai, police said.

The accused identified as Vasant Parmar was caught by patrolling police, after he was found behaving suspiciously near Eros cinema, police said.

When Parmar was frisked, a knife was recovered from him, police said adding, “He was unable to tell us why he was carrying the sharp weapon.”

He was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and further investigations were on.

Over 40,000 policemen were deployed across the city to ensure peaceful New Year revelry.
