Pune: A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 30-year-old father in an inebriated condition at their house here on June 3, police said today.
According to police, the girl’s family lives in an outhouse on the premises of a defence establishment and works as a domestic help at residences of defence personnel on the campus.
A police official said the accused was arrested this evening.
He said the accused picked up a fight with his wife on the night of June 3 in a drunken state.
“When the complainant came out of the house and sat along the road, the accused followed her and sought to get intimate with her. However, she refused and reprimanded him, following which he threatened her, saying if she is not willing, her girls are there and went inside the house,” said the official attached to Uttam Nagar police station.
The official said the woman did not follow her husband into the house immediately and meantime the accused allegedly sexually assaulted the girl.
He said the incident came to light on Tuesday after the girl confided in her mother, who in turn approached the police.
“We have registered a case under IPC section 376 (rape) and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” the official said.
