Kolkata, February 21: This time Mamata Banerjee is on another mission as the Railway Minister has come up with a novel idea of launching an exclusive television channel for the railways. According to the ministry sources, Ms Banerjee is expected to make such a proposal in the upcoming railway budget in Parliament on February 24.
The public amenities committee, an arm of the Railway Board, has cleared a proposal to start a channel following the step of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha that have their own channels.
As per the initial assumptions the TV channel will have its headquarter in Kolkata. The report further reveals that expected Rs 100 crore will to be spent for the venture. The report submitted by the head of public amenities committee, Shuvaprasanna, made a clear suggestion that the content of the channel could be developed to disseminate the “various facets” of the railways before the public.
The panel had also indicated the use of the TV channel for the purpose of promoting tourism and culture. The Railway minister has also shown interest in Shuvaprasanna’s suggestion.
