West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday again raised the issue of non-release of Central funds for state development projects, saying this amounted to “political discrimination”,
This also leads to “interference” in the matters of the state, she said.
“There is political discrimination and interference in the matters of the state. I have been saying this for a long time. This is not acceptable,” Banerjee said after an administrative meeting in South 24-Parganas district.
“The Centre has withheld funds under MNREGA and other schemes. It has also withheld Rs 1,700 crore under the 100 days work scheme. They have also slashed funds for various other projects,” she said.
During the administrative meeting, Mamata asked the state transport department officials to look into the issue of mechanized boats, which formed an important mode of transport in South 24-Parganas district, and its upgradation.
She also asked the Power Department to look into the problem of low voltage in the district.
According to party sources, Banerjee has expressed his displeasure over wetlands being used in real estate business.
“Mamata di expressed her displeasure over wet lands being used for real estate. She has asked the police forces to take stern action whenever there is a complaint regarding this,” a TMC leader said.
