Make Palamur green, CLR tells people

Health Minister Dr C Lakshma Reddy today appealed to people to plant at least 20 plantings at their houses to make Mahabunagar a green district.

Participating in some developmental works at Bhutpur village in Mahabubnagar here, he planted saplings at a school to mark the flagship program of Harithaharam.

Speaking on the occasion, the Health minister noted that the district has only 16 per cent of green cover and therefore was not able to receive adequate rainfall. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was aiming to transform Telangana into a green corridor by expanding the forest cover to 33 per cent from the existing 24 per cent. For this, the government was on a mission mode to plant 46 crore saplings this year and 230 crore in the next five years, he said.

“We have to achieve the target of expanding the green cover to 33 per cent in Palamur district through planting 20 saplings in each house he stated. Besides planting them the people should take measures to protect for future benefits of fighting drought, attracting rains and getting waters into our lakes and ponds”, the minister said. The people and students should participate in the green drive for better future, he added. (NSS)
