Majuli (Assam) : Residents of Majuli eagerly await Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is set to address a rally tomorrow, hoping that development of their region would emerge as a core issue in the upcoming Assam Assembly polls.
Majuli, which has largely remained deprived of development due to lack of connectivity, is the constituency from which BJP’s chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal would be contesting the polls.
Majuli has been raising its demands to improve its connectivity from rest of the state. Although, it has road connectivity from Lalhimpuri in north Assam but its connectivity with rest of the state remains poor.
Prime Minister Modi is set to address six rallies in Assam ahead of the polls, with four rallies in – Tinsukia, Bihpura, Majuli and Borakhat – scheduled for tomorrow. This is in stark contrast to his 40 rallies in Bihar.
Polling in Majhuli will take place in the first phase of voting on April 4.
The Election Commission has announced two-phase voting for the 14th Assam assembly elections on April 4 and 11. The votes will be counted on May 19. (ANI)
