Major reshuffle in police, bureaucracy in J&K

Srinagar, August 26: Jammu and Kashmir government today carried out a major reshuffle in police and bureaucracy by replacing its Home Secretary Samuel Verghese and CID head K Rajendra.

The changes were cleared at a Cabinet meeting chaired by state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here this evening.

Verghese, Financial Commissioner (Home), was shifted as Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Tribunal. He has been replaced by B R Sharma who held the post of Power Secretary.

Rajendra, a 1984 batch IPS officer, who was heading the CID department of the state police, was shifted as Additional Director General of the Armed Police.

He was also given an additional charge as ADG (Law and Order) whereby two zonal Inspector Generals of Kashmir and Jammu would be reporting to him if the situation warrants so.
