Mahmood Ali files his nomination papers proposed by TRS

Hyderabad, March 05: On Friday the Telangana Rashtra Samiti sprang a surprise by filing nomination for the MLC polls under the Assembly quota. Md. Mahmood Ali filed his nomination papers on Friday proposed by 10 TRS MLAs.

All the MLAs were present when the papers were filed before the Returning Officer, Mr Raja Sadaaram, the Legislature Secretary. This is the first nomination in the ongoing MLC polls for 10 seats from the Assembly quota with March 7 being the last date for filing the papers.

The TRS has fielded its candidate, even though it did not have sufficient numbers to get him elected. The TRS has a strength of 11 even though it needs 27 MLAs to win a seat. Assuming that two BJP MLAs also support the TRS nominee, it still falls short of 14 votes. Mr Ali, a close aide of the party chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, was defeated in the 2007 MLC polls.

Meanwhile, Mr Syed Amin ul Hasan Jafri, of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) is all set to get elected “unopposed” to the AP Legislative Council from Hyderabad. His election has become a mere formality as no other candidate except Mr Jafri, filed the papers on Friday, the last date for filing nominations.
