Magistrate probing irregularities beaten up in Bihar

Darbhanga (Bihar), September 11: Yesterday a magistrate probing irregularities at an anganwari centre was allegedly beaten up by villagers in this district, police told.

Rajeshwari Prasad was on a visit to an anganwadi centre at Dhamhara village under Baheri block when Ranjit Kumar Diwakar, husband of the in-charge of the centre Menka Devi, allegedly attacked him along with locals.

They alleged that the magistrate had threatened his wife to implicate her in a false case if she failed to pay him bribe.

Prasad, however, managed to escape from the place. Later, he lodged a complaint against Diwakar and another villager following which police arrested them.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, they said.
