Left parties demand judicial probe into Yanam violence

Yanam, Jan 29 (INN): The left parties’ leaders on Sunday demanded that the Pudducherry Government order judicial probe into the conditions that led to violence after the closure of Regency Ceramics factory in Yanam.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) state general secretary Ch Narsinga Rao, CPI MLC Jalli Wilson and East Godavari district secretary Subba Rao on Sunday called upon Puducherry district Collector SB Deepak Kumar appealing him to order judicial probe with a sitting judge of the High Court into the incident. “The probe must expose the real perpetrators behind the violence and mass destruction,” they said.

The left leaders also urged the Collector to make efforts for reopening of factory by holding a meeting with the employees and management in a cordial atmosphere. They said that the police should not resort to arrests and make efforts to resolve the disputes between the employees and management peacefully. They feared that problem would get intensified further, if the police resort to arrests at this critical stage.

Earlier, they inspected the places where the violence and destruction took place and also enquired about the health condition of employees who were injured in the violence and police firing. (INN)
