The Communist Party of India on Wednesday demanded that the State Government take immediate measures to deal with the scarcity of electricity during summer.
Moving an adjournment motion on the issue in the State Legislative Council on Wednesday, CPI floor leader Jali Wilson said that as the summer season was approaching, the government should take steps to meet the growing demand of electricity in the State. He said several experts have pointed out towards a huge gap between the demand and supply during summer.
Wilson said the industrial sector would be the worst sufferer if immediate steps were not taken.
Favouring the motion, CPM floor Leader L Seeta Ramulu said that due to power storage farming sector would also be affected severely. He warned the government of serious protest if industries were forced to shut down due to shortage of power. He accused the government of not keeping the promise of uninterrupted power supply of seven hours for the farming sector. He said that the issue was very serious and hence it should be discussed in the council.
However, Council Chairman Dr A Chakrapani rejected the motion and advised the members to raise the issue under rule 70. (INN)
