Bangalore, February 15: India’s ace batsman V V S Laxman and South Africa’s frontline bowler Dale Steyn have bagged ESPNcricinfo Awards for their best individual performances in 2010.
The award, instituted by ESPNCricinfo, world’s leading cricket website, was announced last night and presented to Laxman and Steyn last night.
While Laxman won the Test Batting Performance Award in recognition for his match-winning 96 runs against South Africa in the second Test in Durban, Steyn’s sensational 7 wickets for 51 runs on an unresponsive pitch in Nagpur Test won him the award for the best bowling performance of the year.
India’s ace cricketer Sachin Tendulkar won the best individual performer award in the One Day International category for his remarkable 200 not out, the first-ever double hundred in the history of ODI cricket against South Africa in Gwalior.
Pakinstan’s Umar Gul batted the best individual performance in bowling category.
The award for the best Twenty20 batting and bowling performance in 2010 went to Australia’s Michael Hussey, who scored 22 runs off four balls in the last over to win Australia the semi-final of the world Twenty20 against Pakistan and New Zealand’s Tim Southee for an outstanding spell of 5 for 9 deliveries against Pakistan in Auckland, respectively.
The jury, which voted for the award, included Geoffrey Boycott, Ian Chappell, Sanjay Manjrekar, Martin Crowe, Ramiz Raja, Ian Bishop and Sambit Bal (Editor ESPNcricinfo).
