New Delhi, October 20: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today asked the Centre for an immediate release of Rs 6,600 crore for flood relief operations in the state.
Yeddyurappa, who met Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today asked for the Centre’s help in the aftermath of the massive floods that resulted into the death of hundreds of people while thousands were displaced.
Talking to reporters here, the Karnataka CM said that the initial estimate of the flood loss in his state was about Rs 17,000-18,000 crores.
He also said that a Central team will visit the flood ravaged state soon to assess the damages.
“The Home minister has also asked to send across a damage report in this relation,” Yeddyurappa said.
Close to 16,20,398 people were affected by the floods, which also damaged 62,286 houses in Karnataka.
The death count in the state crossed 160 in the floods.
