Kirti Azad dumps BJP, all set to join Congress

NEW DLEHI: Suspended BJP leader and MP Kirti Azad will join the Congresss on February 15, according to a senior party leader on Sunday.

The three time Member of Parliament from Darbhanga in Bihar will join the grand old party in the presence of party president Rahul Gandhi and senior leaders.

It is believed that Azad will be a candidate from the Darbhanga constituency in the up coming Lok Sabha elections. Azad has also spoken to Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and Congress President in this regard, though the seat-sharing arrangement is yet to be finalised.

The 60-year-old former cricketer is the son of former Bihar chief minister Bhagwat Jha Azad, was suspended by the BJP after he spoke against corruption in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) when it was headed by now Finance Minister and BJP stalwart Arun Jaitley.

Azad’s wife Poonam Azad, who also served as a spokesperson of the Bharaitya Janata Patty‘s Delhi unit officially join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on November 13, 2016.

Poonam had worked for the saffron party for more than 20 years.
