Hyderabad, November 27: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today warned corrupt and lazy officials to mend their ways or face the music. He made it clear that corruption and inefficiency will not be tolerated and said that plum postings would be assured only after the officers proved their efficiency.
Addressing a special meeting with the officers of All India Services at the Lake View Guest House today, Kiran Kumar Reddy said he had the list of corrupt officers in the administration and asked them to mend their ways.
“Being in politics for about two decades, I know nearly 75 per cent of the officials personally.
But these relations should not come between us during work. The officers will be rewarded well if they prove their efficiency in implementing government programmes,” he said adding, “There will be no scope for lobbying and recommendations when it comes to work.”
The chief minister expressed his desire to initiate a special system to plug the loopholes in the implementation of various welfare schemes. He wanted the officials to prepare action plans in this regard and cooperate with him in extending the benefits of welfare programmes to deserving persons.
“I have an understanding on the role of the officers and implementation of the schemes. It is the responsibility of the officials to implement my plans without fail and also ensure transparency,” he told the officials.
Kiran Kumar Reddy directed the officials to take firm steps when the situation goes out of control, particularly in the case of law and order. He said that though the officials do not need to face a test after every five years like politicians, it is their responsibility to ensure transparency and provide good governance through effective implementation of the government programmes. He also invited suggestions from the officers in administrative matters and implementation of the government schemes.
Earlier, chief secretary S V Prasad and Director General of Police K Aravinda Rao congratulated the new chief minister on behalf of all the IAS, IPS and IFS officers and promised to provide all cooperation to provide better governance to people of the State.
They said that the officers were well aware of the chief minister’s instructions as he made it clear what he wanted from the bureaucracy during his first press conference yesterday itself.
