Killed 5 Girls In School Stampede

New Delhi, September 10: At least five students were killed and 27 injured in a stampede at a public school in East Delhi on Thursday, reports TV
said.

The stampede occurred after the students were asked to leave the classroom after rumors of electrocution in rain water accumulated on the school grounds after heavy rains in the national capital.

Heavy rains the previous night had left school facilities flooded and when the children were inside a rumor around the water at the ankle was charged with electricity. The children panicked and started running helter-skelter, resulting in a stampede on a ladder, a police officer.

Consolidate the number of deaths and injuries, Joint Commissioner of Police Dharmendra Kumar said the injured have been admitted to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital.

Of the 27 students injured, 26 are girls. Students are reported to be between 14-18 years of age.

CM Sheila Dikshit and Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely has been taken to hospital.

Delhi Govt School is located at Khajuri Khas area of East Delhi.
