Khan elected as Haryana Deputy Speaker

Chandigarh, March 05: Lone BSP MLA in Haryana Assembly Akram Khan was today unanimously elected as the House’s Deputy Speaker.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda moved the motion proposing Khan’s name for the post with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala seconding his name on the opening day of budget session.

Later, talking to reporters outside the House, Hooda, when asked if there was a compulsion to make the BSP MLA as Deputy Speaker, said, “there was no compulsion on us”.

Khan is MLA from Jagadhri assembly seat.

“It is for the first time that someone other than the ruling party will occupy this post. We have set a tradition,” Hooda said about Khan, who supports the Hooda government along with seven Independents.
