Kottayam, April 30 Cracks emerged within the Kerala Congress-J(KC-J) today with rival factions holding parallel meetings to protest the party’s decision to quit the ruling LDF and merge with Kerala Congress-Mani (KC-M).
The anti-merger group, led by former Union Minister P C Thomas and MLA V Surendran Pillai, is likely to adopt a resolution asking party chairman PC Joseph to refrain from joining KC-M to make its way to the Congress-led UDF.
Joseph has also called a state committee meeting in the afternoon which is expected to authorise him to go ahead with the merger plan, KC-J sources said.
Joseph is also likely to announce his resignation from the V S Achuthanandan ministry in which he holds the Public Works portfolio.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders, who are less enthusiastic about the merger, are meeting in Thiruvananthapuram and would discuss the political fallout of the recent development.
