Majitha: AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal today announces that Himmat Singh Shergill will contest in the upcoming Punjab Assembly polls against state Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, who has been mired with various controversies pertaining to drugs.
Challenging Majithia at his home turf, Kejriwal proposed the name of Shergill, the party’s state legal cell head, at a gathering and asked people if the latter would be the right choice to take on the revenue minister.
On getting the gathering’s nod, he asked Shergill, who was present at the event, if he was ready to take the challenge. Shergill said he is “more than eager” to accept the challenge and take the state “out of the clutches of the Badals and Majtihia”.
The AAP national convener said it is “extremely important” to “root out” Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh, the Badal family and Majithia from the state, to give people hope, progress and development.
“I can see that we have all gathered here to uproot Majithia from his own constituency to establish the rule of law. The kind of massive gathering I see around this place gives me a sense that Majithia would even forfeit his deposit in the assembly polls next year from this constituency,” Kejriwal said.
The Delhi Chief Minister alleged that Amarinder, the Badals and Majithia are fighting the assembly polls together against AAP.
“Why has Amarinder never challenged Majithia or the Badals to contest against him from Patiala,” Kejriwal asked, adding Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal too have never challenged Amarinder to contest from Lambi and Jalalabad constituencies.
“But all of them will always challenge me to contest against them. This show the Badals and Amarinder are having secret political understanding to protect each other’s, interests. Both SAD and Congress are jointly contesting against AAP,” he alleged.
