KCR failed to protect interests of farmers: TTDP Rytu wing

Faulting functioning of the TRS government, Telangana TDP has alleged that the State government has miserably failed to protect the interests of farmers in the State.

In a joint press conference here on Wednesday, TDP Rytu wing State president Onteru Pratap Reddy expressed concern that contrary to claim by TRS government that the State will be made Bangaru Telangana, the State stood second in suicides of farmers in the country. The condition of the farmers is very pathetic in the State as they are not able to get even minimum support price for their produce like pulses, cotton, maize and soya, the TDP leader alleged. He said the State government has not opened a center to buy the products of farmers as promised.

The TDP leader said there were 545 lifts for supplying water for irrigation. How many of them are working presently, he questioned. Pratap Reddy said TDP would win elections and form the government in Telangana in 2019 elections. The party would prove that farmer is king, he added.

G Buchilingam, convenor of party’s program committee in Telangana, said thousands of families have been suffering as the government failed to take over Nizam Sugar Factory. Sirpur Kagaznagar Mills was closed down two-and-a-half years ago and now this mill is about to be auctioned by the banks. The government should initiate immediate steps to prevent this and save interest of its workers.

M Amarnath Babu, Telangana State general secretary, said though farmers were committing suicides in despair, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao did not hold any review meeting on agriculture sector. He demanded that the State government release a white paper on agriculture and industry sectors. (NSS)
