Even as Leader of the Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and Jana Sena Chief and Actor Pawan Kalyan were vouching for special category status, Telangana MP K Kavitha today raised the pitch for the same.
During her visit to Amaravathi to participate at World Women Parliamentarians Conference there, the Telangana MP said the Centre should keep all the promises of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and give special status to Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to media persons here after having darshan of Goddess Sri Kanakadurga atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada, Kavitha said, “We will stand by Andhra Pradesh for the special status. There was a need for the Centre to keep the promise of SCS”, she said. “Though two States got separated, the Telugu people are one and should remain together and vie for development”, she said.
When Kavitha was talking in favour and also fight for the special status, the people standing nearby shouted slogans praising her. It may be said here that Kavitha also spoke in Parliament in favour of SCS. Her remarks came at a time when Union Information & Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu feigned ignorance of similar remarks and protests by Pawan Kalyan and Jaganmohan Reddy respectively.
Venkaiah Naidu recently said the Centre was trying to give more funds to Andhra Pradesh than that SCS gets. Now it is to be seen what the BJP-led NDA Government will take steps in this regard as the pressure was being mounted from other spheres. (NSS)
