CHENNAI: This news piece will surely remind you of the epic ‘Kauwa Biryani’ scene of comedian Vijay Raaz from Bollywood movie ‘Run,’ where the latter stops by a roadside stall and unconsciously eats a plate of the infamous Biryani.
In fact, two people were reportedly arrested on Thursday in Tamil Nadu‘s Rameswaram for allegedly selling the crow meat to the chicken stalls to get it mixed before selling it to roadside eateries.
According to forest officials, around 150 dead birds were seized.
Cheap replacement
According to media reports, the shady business was exposed after the pilgrims at the temple noticed that crows kept dying from eating rice that devotees offer at the temple.
On further investigation, it was found that the crows were being fed liquor-laced rice by the poachers who later sold their meat to chicken stalls.
These stalls reportedly mixed the crow meat with that of chicken as a cheap replacement before selling it to roadside eateries.
The police are investigating the neighboring roadside eateries for further information.
This is not the first case reported.
Cat biryani
Back in 2016, Chennai police and animal rights activists exposed the uncanny link between the missing cats and the hot mutton chops hidden in the saffron-scented rice biriyani.
Narikoravas, a nomadic community, had been accused of indulging in trapping cats and selling its meat to small-time roadside eateries, mostly located near liquor bars and sell it to unsuspecting consumers.
