Lifeline of North Telangana, Kaleshwaram project will be completed on time and bring under irrigation 37 lakh acres, Irrigation and Assembly Affairs Minister today said. Talking in the upper house of the Council on a brief debate on projects, Harish said that the works of the prestigious Kaleshwaram project are going on in a speedy manner. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has convinced Maharashtra Government on Kaleshwaram project he said. Since the aim of the projects is to get ample waters we have started redesigning and reengineering of the projects.
Harish Rao remarked that the government had to go in for Medigadda project to impound 200 tmc waters as Tammidihatti has the low capacity of only 42 tmc. As per instructions of Central Water Commission (CWC) we took up the projects and reservoirs by increasing their capacities Harish said. Non availability of the waters thwarts the project completion and Medigadda is being completed as per plan on a war-footing he said. As per CWC instructions the government has initiated steps to impound 141 tmc waters at Pranahitha-Chevella against its capacity of just 14 tmc to irrigate crops in Adilabad district. Since giving waters to 16 lakh acres through 14 tmc is not possible, works began for increasing reservoirs capacity to 141 tmc he said. Kaleshwaram project will irrigate crops in 19 districts and will shift waters to SRSP and make abundant Godavari River. The aim of the government is to see that each acre is irrigated to reap in golden harvest, he said. (NSS)
