J’khand polls: Air surveillance begins

Ranchi, November 24: Amid air surveillance and heightened security, Jharkhand is ready for its first phase election in 26 assembly seats tomorrow.

“Air surveillance has already begun and adequate security arrangements have been made for tomorrow’s first phase polling,” Joint Chief Electoral Officer A K Sinha here said.

He, however, did not disclose the number of companies of security personnel deployed and that of surveillance copters.

“We will not share security-related matters,” he said.

Fourteen of the 26 assembly constituencies are situated in the Santhal Pargana region, which is not hit by ultra-left extremism, while most of the remaining seats are in urban areas, also by and large free from Naxal menace.

Notwithstanding, the authorities are not taking any chance, particularly on the outskirts of Jamshedpur (East) and Jamshedpur (West) Tundi seat in Dhanbad, officials said.
