Mumbai, January 09: Resident doctors and nursing staff of government-run JJ hospital today held protests outside the Dean’s office here following an alleged assault on a colleague by relatives of a patient who died during treatment.
The incident took place last night when a patient, Sayed, who was being treated at the hospital died following which his relatives allegedly manhandled Dr Prashant Bhand, accusing him of negligence.
They subsequently ransacked a hospital ward, police said.
Demanding “basic security and complete protection”, protesting doctors said that JJ being a model hospital, attending to large number of emergency cases on a daily basis, needs to be shielded from such kind of attacks.
Representatives from the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) are meeting the Dean to discuss the security issues following which further course of action will be decided, they said.
