Jilted love strangles B-Ed student

Khammam, May 07: Khammam Rural police on Saturday exhumed the body of a final year B-Ed student from the premises of her Annie Besant B-Ed College in Ponnekal where she was buried after being strangled by the attender of her college after she refused to marry him.

According to Sub-Inspector Raji Reddy, the girl, 22-year-old Sarika, was strangled by the attender Raju who was in love with her after she revealed to him that her parents were looking for a prospective groom from her own caste and she was in agreement with their wishes.

The police had earlier started their efforts to trace Sarika, a resident of Kotturu village, after her father Sudharshan Reddy filed a complaint that his daughter was missing since May 1.

The police started tracing the calls made and received on her mobile phone and then zeroed in on Raju, who was among the last persons she had spoken to, before she went missing.

They picked him up for questioning and he then revealed the grisly details of how he had snuffed out the life of the young girl.

Raju told police that on that fateful night, Sarika had met him and told him that her parents were insisting that she get married and that too to someone of her own caste. She also told Raju that she was in agreement with her parent’s desires and requested him to forget her and move on with her life.

Raju however could not come to terms with the fact that his object of desire would be henceforth unattainable for him. He told the police that he had thought that if Sarika could not be his, then she should be no one else’s.

The attender strangled the girl with her own dupatta and then buried her in the college premises in the dead of the night.

The police exhumed Sarika’s remains and sent them to the government hospital for autopsy. A case has been registered under Section 302 IPC. (INN)
