Hyderabad, September 29: The Junior Chamber International Banjara Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Special Olympics Bharat Andhra Pradesh, will be conducting some cultural and fun events for the special children (intellectually disabled) at the RRC Grounds, Secunderabad on September 30 from 9 am.
The event covers 2K Run (first of its kind for special children), painting competitions, fun games, Rangoli competition, fashion show, cultural programmes like solo dance, group dance and singing. The participants will be provided with all facilities like breakfast, lunch, snacks, return gifts, T-shirts, caps and so on.
Prizes will be awarded to the winners of cultural events. For the winners of 2K Run, cash prizes to the tune of Rs 5,000 (Rs 2,500 for the winner, Rs 1,500 for the first runner up and Rs 1,000 for the second runner up) will be given. Some 1,500 special children from 50 schools across the twin
cities with over 200 escorts and volunteers are expected to participate in the event.
Mr Vinay Mehta, former Zonal president, JCI India, told mediapersons that the programme was aimed at instilling self-confidence among the special children and provide them an opportunity to get reputation in the society. Besides, it aims to create leadership qualities among the youth between 14 and 24 years so that they can contribute their services to the society with energy and enthusiasm.
Mr Santosh Kumar, national president of JCI India, who will be the chief guest would inaugurate the event. Dr E Ravikant, zonal president, Zone XII, Mr Mukesh Kumar Meena, vice-chairman and Managing Director, SAAP, Prof. Adrin Kennedy, trustee SOB, Mr Nitul Singhvi, NOM coordinator Jayceerette wing, Mr Prem raj, director, GHMC Sports and Mr Karuna Rajan Satardekar, NOM coordinator, will be the guests of honour.
The JCI is an international organisation having presence in 117 countries with a membership of five million between 18 to 40 years. The Special Olympic Bharat AP is a worldwide organisation having membership in over 180 countries.
It encourages more than seven lakh special children in games and sports.
