Jayant Sinha takes U turn; expresses regret over garlanding convicted cow vigilantes

New Delhi: After facing a lot of criticism over garlanding convicted Gau rakshaks, Union minister Jayant Sinha on Wednesday expressed his regret. It must be recalled that Jayant Sinha had felicitated 7 convicted cow vigilantes in Jharkhand’s Hazari Bagh last week. He said, ‘if by garlanding them (Ramgarh lynching case convicts) an impression has gone out that I support such vigilantism then I express regret over it’.

ANI has quoted him as saying “I have said many times that the matter is still sub judice. It won’t be fair to talk on this. Law will take its own course. We have always worked towards punishing the guilty and sparing the innocent.”

The seven cow vigilantes were convicted for lynching a Muslim meat trader in Ramgarh in June last year.

Jayant Sinha’s father and ex-BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said he did not approve his son’s action.
