Jayalalithaa denies media report over meeting with Sonia

Chennai, January 24: AIADMK General Secreatry J Jayalalithaa today dismissed the media speculation that she would meet UPA Chairperson Ms Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi when she attends the diamond jubilee celebrations of Election Commission tomorrow.

In a brief chat with newspersons here before leaving for Delhi, she said the report that she would meet Ms Gandhi was a mere speculation by the media.

”I don’t want to reply to this question now,” she said when asked whether she would meet Ms Gandhi in Delhi.

”You yourself imagine something and posed this question. I don’t want to answer this question,” she added.
Jayalalithaa said she is attending the diamond jubilee celebrations following an invitation from the Chief Election Commission of India (CEC).

Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla had also spoke to her over phone and personally invited to attend the celebrations, she added.

The AIADMK leader said she considered it as a moral duty and feel proud to attend the diamond jubilee celebrations of the EC as it plays a vital role in preserving India’s democracy.

India is the largest democratic country in the world and the EC had a great role in preserving the democracy, she added.

Ms Jayalalithaa left for Delhi at 1050 hrs by a special flight.
