Jaswant Singh quits as PAC Chairman

New Delhi, December 16: Former BJP leader and Darjeeling MP Jaswant Singh resigned as Chairman of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) today.

This was confirmed by sources in the Speaker’s office. The PAC, which is constituted every year, examines accounts showing the appropriation of sums granted by Parliament for the government’s expenditure and scrutinizes the annual finance accounts.

BJP leader Sushma Swaraj had even attacked him directly over the issue and asked him to step down from the PAC chairmanship, on the grounds that he would not have become the chairman if the party had not nominated him.

Jaswant was expelled from BJP’s primary membership after he had written a book praising Pakistan founder MA Jinnah.
